Orlistat is the only weight loss product recognized by the FDA. Since 1999 this ingredient has been widely used in many weight loss products. In fact, Alli and Xenical are the two most commonly used weight loss products that contain Orlistat.
What is Orlistat?
Xenical (Orlistat) is basically a drug that contributes to weight loss by preventing digestion as well as absorption of fats from food. There is a particular enzyme released by the pancreas in our intestine called lipase, it is due to this enzyme that the fats present in food break down only to be absorbed by the body. Orlistat acts by blocking this very action, thereby discouraging the process of fat breakup and also fat absorption. With Orlistat, you can block up to 25% of fat from a meal. This unabsorbed fat will be released by the body in the form of stool.
Alli
Non prescription Alli is an excellent weight loss pill that helps in reducing the body weight very easily. You need not struggle any more to shed all your excess pounds, Alli can do it all for you. Alli is basically a milder version of Orlistat, a prescribed drug for treating obesity. It is an approved drug that is now being sold over-the-counter to combat body weight. Alli is used in combination with a low-fat and low-calorie diet, and regular workout.
Xenical
Prescription Xenical is quite similar to Alli, but it is stronger than Alli in its composition. Xenical also works by blocking the absorption of fat. It helps in reducing your body weight which reduces risk factors associated with increased body weight, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, triglycerides and cholesterol.
The Formula
Both Alli and Xenical are basically Orlistat based products for weight loss. Their working mechanism is slightly different from any other weight loss pill you can find over the-counter, as these pills, particularly Orlistat contained in them helps in preventing the fat from getting absorbed in to the body, it is deemed as the ultimate weight loss solution.
However, these medications cannot do anything alone; you must combine them with proper exercise regime, diet and lots of hard work. When executed properly, weight loss isn’t something unachievable.
Concerns
Orlistat is not meant for people under 18. It is also not safe to be taken during pregnancy. People suffering from cholestaisis and malabsorption syndrome should not be taking Orlistat and similar group of medications.
There are some side effects of the drugs as well, though not something that you cannot cope up with. As the fats are not absorbed by the body when you are taking these medications, they are released in the form of feces. Therefore, frequent toilet visits, diarrhea in some cases, wind and oily spots on your clothes could be a few concerns. However, if you keep your diet low in fat, you will not face any of these problems.
Orlistat is definitely a good way to keep body fat at a bay!
